Airport Transfers
Shuttle bus services will be available from New Chitose Airport to the official Conference Hotels. A dedicated concierge counter will also be in service at the airport to assist ARC delegates arriving on international and domestic flights. More details will be provided in due course.
Travelling between Tokyo and Sapporo
Tokyo has two major airports, Narita International Airport and Haneda International Airport. Conversely, New Chitose Airport, located near Sapporo, is Hokkaido’s main airport.
The flight time between Tokyo to Hokkaido is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Weather
Hokkaido’s temperatures in August normally range between 16°C and 24°C, making for a comfortable climate.
There are certain days where the temperature may exceed 30°C in the afternoon, and others where the temperature may drop below 10°C in the morning and evening.
Voltage and Plug
The standard voltage in Japan is AC100V. You may require a transformer when using your electrical appliances in Japan.
The most common type of plug in Japan is a non-polarized, ungrounded 2-pin type.
Currency &
Tipping Etiquette
The Japanese currency is JPY. While most places accept credit cards, we would suggest delegates bring a small amount of cash, as credit cards may not be accepted at certain stores.
In Japan, tipping is not required.
Smoking Policy
In Japan, it is considered polite to smoke in designated smoking areas, with many cities having prohibited smoking in public spaces.
While many hotels have smoking and non-smoking rooms, an increasing number of lodgings are completely non-smoking. Smoking is also prohibited on trains, buses and airplanes.
